A Level Art & Design

Art enhances creative drawing, painting and design skills, and supports individuals to enrich their talent. Students gain an understanding of artists through gallery visits and sketchbook research.

The course prepares students for many post-18 courses and careers in art and design including architecture, photography, fine art, graphic design, animation and illustration, fashion and jewellery design, a stylist or exhibition organiser. Almost 2 million people are now employed in the UK’s creative organisations, with a wider number making up the creative economy which also includes creative roles in non-creative organisations.

“Art allows you to develop your creative skills in an exciting, stimulating and supportive environment.”

A Level Art and Design – Edexcel

What is Art?

Art and Design allows students to extend creative thinking and problem solving skills in art media as well as using the traditional approaches of drawing and painting techniques in a two year course. Creative indus-tries are at the forefront of employment across the UK. You will develop skills through creating and developing new ideas that are challenging, individual and expressive. Your work and skills will develop as well as your confidence to present and discuss.

Why study it?

Using inspiring themes, you will be able to develop your own ideas with the only limit being your imagination. Throughout the course you will create an exciting portfolio of work using a variety of different media, including drawing, painting, printmaking, textiles, photography and ICT. Yet perhaps more valuable than anything, you will enjoy opportunities to develop independence of mind, explore your own ideas, refine your skills and produce personal outcomes, as well as discussing them through critiques and tutorials.
