Duke of Edinburgh Award

Here at Conyers Duke of Edinburgh’s Award we recruit new Bronze participants in late October. The reason being that, our primary role is to prepare the new participants over the winter months for their expeditions, which take place in the summer months that follow.

Our programme covers all aspects of the expedition section, including; Safety, first aid, navigation, the weather and clothing, equipment, campcraft, cooking and nutrition. This takes place in the evening, at the school over a period of one hour per week.

Each participant, (in small teams), have to plan, prepare and organise their expedition having completed this training then, complete a practice expedition before undertaking their assessed expedition.

During this process we are also supporting, encouraging and facilitating the participants through the other three sections of the Award with the aim of all four sections being completed by the end of the summer term.

The four sections are;

  • Volunteering, is about making a difference to other people’s lives or to your community.
  • Physical, to achieve a greater physical fitness through participation and improvement in physical activity.
  • Skill, developing practical and social skills.
  • Expedition, to stimulate a sense of adventure.
