Whilst completing his GCSEs this summer, talented Conyers athlete Daniel Payne was also training hard in preparation for the U15/U17 English Athletics National Track and Field Championships at Bedford International Stadium.
Daniel produced an outstanding performance, winning a Silver medal in the U17 1500m.
He has shown tremendous discipline and determination to balance his academic studies and athletic training; he also represented the Cleveland Schools Athletics Association at the English Schools Track and Field Championships in July.
Over the summer he has managed to bring his PBs down to 3:53.93 for his 1500m (currently placing him 3 rd in the U17 UK rankings for 1500m) and to 1:53.91 for his 800m (placing him at 8 th in U17 UK rankings for 800m).
Daniel has now enrolled in the Conyers 6 th form studying PE, Business Studies and Sociology. He is also a member of the TASS (Talented Athlete Scholarship Scheme) Dual Career programme based at Conyers that supports aspiring athletes to balance the significant demands placed on their time.
Nick Gresswell, Director of Sport at Conyers, said;
“Daniel’s achievements this summer are truly inspirational; securing a strong set of GCSE grades and then performing at the highest level athletically is testament to his talent, determination and work ethic. We are excited to have him in the Sixth Form and support his progress and development within the TASS Dual Career programme.”
