BTEC in Information Technology
This qualification is designed for learners who are interested in an introduction to the study of creating IT systems to manage and share information, alongside other fields of study, with a view to progressing to a wide range of higher education courses, not necessarily in IT.
Learners will develop a common core of IT knowledge and study areas such as managing and processing data to support business and using IT to communicate and share information, including databases, social media and website development.
The IT sector has been forecast as one of the main sectors for future job creation in the Tees Valley. In addition there is a national shortage of higher level ICT skills. A particular shortage exists in people combining ICT skills with Business and/or Creative skills. Careers progression includes, Higher Education and apprenticeships leading to careers in Business, social media, advertising and website development.

What is Information Technology (IT)?
IT is the study of the systems that are used to manage and share information personally socially and in business. For example, it is the relationship between the hardware and software that form an IT system, managing and processing data to support business and using IT to communicate and share information.
Why study it?

The course is delivered via 4 Units – Equivalent in size to 1 A Level
