Labour Market Intelligence
It is really important to know about what jobs are currently available in our area as well as knowing about the growth sectors where jobs are likely to appear in the future. This is called Labour Market Intelligence (LMI). This will help to support guiding students towards an appropriate career pathway. The factsheets below give you the latest information for what is happening in the North East, provided by our colleagues at the Tees Valley Combined Authority (TVCA).
Support for SEN Students:
Students with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) have career specific guidance provided within them. Working in conjunction with our Learning Support Team, we support students in receipt of an EHCP to provide them with bespoke advice and guidance in regards to next steps. We offer parents/carers the chance to speak to the Careers Team and SENCO at various opportunities, including the Year 9 Options Evening.
Students without an EHCP, but who work with the SEND team will also benefit from additional guidance in the form of visits to local college providers, 1-1 guidance meetings with staff and parents and support in applying for the next steps. Year 10 and 11 students also participate in the Prince’s Trust Course which has career specific modules
- ‘Planning for the world of work’
- ‘Career Planning’
Work in these modules includes identifying career paths, expectations in the workplace, where to look for specific jobs, interview preparations and role play. Students following the EMS Pathway will also complete a Food Hygiene Certificate to help prepare them for work.
All students benefit from the Focus Day Programme where we offer a variety of activities which means that there is something that appeals to all students. Activities ranging from creative, practical and tasks requiring logical reasoning mean that students can choose/access what is suitable for them.
