Personal Development Curriculum including Relationships and Sex Education
The Personal Development Curriculum is delivered during PD Time (10:00-10:25 each day) Personal Development and incorporates the teaching of Citizenship, Fundamental British Values and Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) in an age appropriate manner. The Personal Development Curriculum ensures that the statutory obligations, stipulated by the Department for Education are fulfilled.
According to the 2019 Statutory guidance on relationships education, relationships and sex education (RSE) and health education parents are entitled to withdraw their child from the Sex Education content*, but not relationship education. Parents are entitled to make this request up until 3 terms before the child’s 16th Birthday, after which children are free to make their own decisions.
*unless there are exceptional circumstances
Any parent wishing to withdraw their child from Sex Education should make a written request to Sam Pickering, Assistant Headteacher with responsibility for Personal Development.
