Key Stage 4 Curriculum Map
Curriculum Intent
To give students the opportunity to express, explore and develop their own creativity through a wide range of skills such as drawing, model making and metal working. To develop students’ understanding of the modern engineering workplace through industrial and site visits. To equip students with the ability and confidence to become skilled in their chosen field of Engineering, opening up the chance to move into a range of careers/higher education. To give students hands on experience in maintenance and repair.
Key Knowledge and Skills
Students will gain knowledge in a range of Engineering sectors. Term 1 looks at Engineering companies and business functions, with visits to CAT and Nifco. Term 2 focuses on the design of a product, resulting in the prototyping of a Multi-tool. Term 3 is about maintenance. Students will disassemble a product and design a part to repair it. Term 4 and 5 is focused on the exam, which covers a range of engineering sectors set externally. The final half of Year 11 is focused on the final part of component 2, students will create and repair the product disassembled and designed in term 3.
Sequence Discussion
Projects are sequenced based on the assignments set by BTEC. We will use 1 half term to teach and 1 to produce assignment. All skills and knowledge needed for this course are delivered in Years 7 – 9, allowing the students to easily access the content.
