Key Stage 5 Curriculum Map

Curriculum Intent

  1. To be able to apply ICT solutions to real life scenarios both logically and creatively.
  2. To have an understanding of the modern digital world and how this can be applied to a business context.
  3. Be able to assess , decompose and give IT solutions to a range of ICT and business issues.

Key Knowledge and Skills

This qualification is designed for learners who are interested in an introduction to the study of creating IT systems to manage and share information, alongside other fields of study, with a view to progressing to a wide range of higher education courses, not necessarily in IT. Students will develop and maintain a range of digital products that will aim to promote a product or service from a given scenario.  Alongside the marketing aspect of ICT students will gain a knowledge of the workings of computers and understand the logic not only related to relational database management but also of how computers and networks operate themselves.

Sequence Discussion

The skills taught in Unit 1 can be applied across all units and therefore is a perfect unit for students to understand to assist with development throughout the rest of the course. Being able to apply ICT solutions to a scenario is essential and is used in all units, this skill is predominantly taught in its essence in the first unit. Unit 6 and Unit 3 are very complementary and once the assets and business model are made for the website they can be used for Unit 3 to promote a small business through social media. Finally Unit 2, This unit is the most complex out of the 4 units and as such requires students to understand how IT solutions can work. Unit 1 as previously stated aims to help students to apply their knowledge to the scenario. Where the other units are more marketing this one is more complex as it is data management and requires more logical thinking skills.
