Music

To develop students knowledge and skills within the 3 exam components of performance, composition and listening, in order to gain an A Level grade that is in line or above their MEG.

Performance: Students are able to perform a stimulating and effective recital lasting 10-12mins and to at least grade 5 standard
Composition: Students are able to compose full pieces of music which are stimulating and effective (satisfying A Level criteria)
Listening: Students can analyse unfamiliar pieces of music and break them down aurally using the musical elements and all keywords within the specification. Students are able to analyse written notation and identify key features within a score. Students can analyse ‘set works’ in depth and retain key bits of information

Builds further on the three key areas developed at KS3 and KS4 – Performance, composing and listening, however a greater focus on listening. Listening must be imbedded throughout course as (40%) and a lot of information to cover.  2 Compositions, again 1 per year in order to meet deadlines. Last half term(s) needed to revise/recover listening content from the start of the course.
