Key Stage 5 Curriculum Map

Curriculum Intent

To develop a lifelong enthusiasm for physical activity, recreation and sport. To be ‘fit for life’ physically, mentally, socially and emotionally. To equip students with the knowledge and understanding of the ethics, safety, rules and challenges of organised sports and activities. Students appreciate how the theories and concepts they are studying relate to their everyday lives and how PE, sport, physical activity and recreation enriches wider society.

Key Knowledge and Skills

Theory

  1. Understanding of the demands of exercise, sports and performance on the human body.
  2. Confidently analyse and evaluate the physical, social, mental and health related factors that impact on sports and physical recreation.
  3. Participate in a range of targeted activities that improve performance in sport, activity and exercise.

Develop essential knowledge and understanding of different areas of physical education (anatomy & physiology, psychology and sociology) and how they relate to each other and influence sport and society.
Develop and demonstrate a focused appreciation of developing practical sporting skills, game awareness and tactical decisions when participating in competitive sports situations.
Develop competence and confidence in a variety of practical, mathematical and problem solving skills when analysing and evaluating sports performance and efficiency.
Develop interest in and enthusiasm for the subject, including developing an interest in further study and careers associated with the subject
Understand how sport evolved in society and how it continues to influence and contribute to the success of the economy and society.
